Search lights flood the vast Saturn V rocket as the Apollo 16 mission waits to launch astronauts John Young, Tom Mattingly and Charlie Duke towards the moon for the Apollo 16 mission. Some 360 feet high, the huge rocket towers over the surrounding area, as tests are carried out on every aspect of the rocket’s huge fuel cells, rotors and hundreds of thousands of complicated components. Young and Duke landed on the moon on April 21st 1972 and spent 3 days on the surface exploring the Descartes region of the moon’s south-eastern surface.
